Face the Quebec winter
Everyone knows that in Quebec, winter tires are mandatory from December 1 to March 15 inclusive. However, do you know if your tires are really designed for winter driving and if they comply with Transports Québec regulations?
Winter tires, or all-season tires?
All-season tires (mud and ice) and summer tires are poorly suited to winter driving. The rubber they are made from hardens and loses grip when the mercury drops below 7°C. The rubber of winter tires remains much softer and more grippy, up to temperatures approaching -30°C. Don’t put your safety at risk.
Follow the regulations in force
Let’s get one thing straight right away: you absolutely need to get winter tires. Even if you plan to only take short trips, even if you don’t want to take your car out when the roads are icy or snowy. It’s the law and you must comply, otherwise you risk hefty fines that could cost you a lot more than four new tires.
Consumer responsibility
It is your duty to ensure that the tires you wish to purchase bear the pictogram (a mountain decorated with a snowflake) certifying that they are suitable for winter driving. In fact, the sale of tires not bearing this pictogram is not prohibited during the cold season and you must therefore be vigilant and ensure that you buy the right product.
